PSORIASIS
It is a chronic skin problem that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, resulting in thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin. Actually it is an auto-immune disorder characterized on the skin
IT IS NON CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
Normally, skin cells grow gradually and flake off about every 4 weeks. New skin cells grow to replace the outer layers of the skin as they shed.
But in psoriasis, new skin cells move rapidly to the surface of the skin in days rather than weeks. They build up and form thick patches called plaques.
CAUSES
1. When the immune system overreacts causes inflammation and flaking of skin.
2.Hereditary
3. Exciting factors like cold and dry climate, infections, stress, and dry skin.
4.Certain medicines, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and medicines used to treat high blood pressure or certain mental illnesses, may trigger an outbreak or make your psoriasis worse.

6. Psoriasis is NOT contagious. It cannot be spread by touch to others.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
1. Usually affects both sides of body symmetrically
2. Well circumscribed red, dry plaques of various sizes covered with scales.
3. Removal of scales give rise to pin point bleeding points.
4. Sites can be anywhere on the body esp. knees, elbows, sacrum, occiput
5. Lesions are coin shaped or circular with clear centre.
6. When suppressed with any medicine/local application mostly it leads to ARTHRITS(Joint Pain or crippling).All joints can be affected especially finger joints.
7. Nails frequently become thick, pitted with brownish black discoloration.
